Documenting best fit practices for BIS-MSI and partners

Year: 2022 | Topic: Capacity building

Description

BIS-MSI vzw has been implementing a five-year programme 2017-2021 aimed at strengthening trade unions in South Africa, Burundi and Senegal so to improve social dialogue and contribute to more favourable working conditions for vulnerable workers in the informal and formal economy with focus on women and youth.

BIS-MSI supports four trade unions: two confederations in South Africa (COSATU and SACAWU), one confederation (COSYBU) and one federation (FNTT-SI) in Burundi and one confederation (CNTS) in Senegal. BIS-MSI supports partners in strengthening their capacities to provide relevant services to their respective target groups or members as well as to engage in political action and social dialogue in order to influence policy actors.

Result

A selection of best fit practices was selected based upon a study of documents (programme documents and annual reports) and intake interviews with partners. These best fit practices covered a variety of approaches and themes. National consultants were responsible for data-collection and for describing the best fit practice. Partners and BIS-MSI provided feedback on the performance story. Data-collection was based upon interviews with staff involved of partners and interviews or focus group discussions with direct beneficiaries (shop stewards, members) and -when necessary- with external stakeholders (like participants in social dialogue, policy makers, employers, etc.).
